Nobody decides to have a burst pipe because they saw an ad on Tuesday. So we will say what most agencies selling you Facebook ads will not: for emergency plumbing, this is your third channel, behind Google Ads and Local Services Ads.It is still worth running — for three reasons that have nothing to do with emergencies.

Meta Ads for plumbers is paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram aimed at the plumbing work people plan rather than the work they panic over — water heater replacement, repipes, filtration and remodels — plus the name recognition that decides which plumber gets called when an emergency search does happen, and the recruiting that most plumbing companies need more than they need leads. It is not a replacement for Google Ads or Local Services Ads on emergency demand, and any account run as though it were will underperform both.
A failing water heater gives weeks of warning. That decision is made long before anybody searches, and the feed is where it can be reached.
The emergency search still happens on Google. Meta decides whether your name is the familiar one among the three results — real, valuable, and honestly hard to attribute.
Most plumbing companies are short of technicians before they are short of jobs. Meta is the best hiring channel available to the trade, and almost nobody sells it that way.
As a certified Meta Business Partner, we bring verified strategies and craft campaigns that don’t just run — they scale.

Why Meta here
Plumbing's most profitable work is not the 2am callout — it is the water heater that has been making a noise for a month, the repipe the homeowner has been putting off since they moved in, the filtration system they have thought about twice. None of that is urgent, all of it is expensive, and almost none of it is searched until the decision has already been made somewhere else. The feed is that somewhere else, and your competitors are not there.
Then there is the part nobody sells you: most plumbing companies are short of technicians long before they are short of jobs. Meta is the best hiring channel a trade has — the audience is local, the targeting is by geography and interest rather than by job title, and a good recruiting ad reaches people who are not currently looking. If you cannot staff another truck, more leads are not your problem.
Why the feed is worth being in at all
The feed decides who they call before they ever search.
How the decision actually happens
This is the part of plumbing demand that search cannot see, and the only part Meta can actually reach.
Three weeks of warning, then ninety seconds of decision
Nobody searches for anything. It is annoying rather than urgent, and the homeowner decides to keep an eye on it — which means the highest-value job in plumbing has just entered a queue that no search campaign can reach.
Not an ad asking them to call. A thirty-second video showing what the sound means, how long they have, and roughly what a replacement costs. This is the only moment in the whole sequence that a feed can win.
Now they search — 'water heater replacement near me' — and three companies appear. Two are names they have never seen. One has been explaining water heaters to them for a fortnight.
Google gets the credit and the click, because that is where the call came from. The decision, though, was made two weeks earlier in a feed — which is why this channel is worth funding and also why it will never fully show up in your attribution.
Search captures the call. It does not decide who they were already going to trust.
What we'd actually run
On Meta the ad is the targeting — the algorithm has absorbed most of the rest. So this is a creative plan rather than a media plan.
Sewer camera video is genuinely compelling to people who have never seen inside a pipe, and plumbers already film it for diagnosis. It stops the scroll on curiosity rather than on offer, which is exactly what cold traffic responds to.
The mistake is making it a commercial. Narrate what is being seen, name the problem, say what it costs to fix. The most-watched version of this ad is usually the least produced one.
What a failing water heater sounds like. What corroded supply lines look like. What happens to a slab leak left alone. Each one reaches a homeowner in the weeks of warning they did not know they had.
This is the highest-value creative on the account because it targets the jobs with margin — replacement, repipe, filtration — rather than the drain unblock that a search campaign was going to win anyway.
Pay range, the trucks, the benefits, the person they would work for. Reaching licensed technicians who are employed and not looking, which is the only place a growing plumbing company can find them.
Note the platform constraint: employment ads are a Special Ad Category on Meta and run with restricted targeting. That is a real limitation, it is not fatal, and we set the campaign up declared correctly rather than having it rejected later.
Trades sell on trust and trust does not survive a stock-footage ad. Thirty seconds of the actual owner explaining one thing they see constantly outperforms produced video in nearly every plumbing account we run.
It is also the fastest route out of creative fatigue, which is what actually kills these accounts. One shoot produces a month of distinct ads; one polished hero video produces one.
People who visited a service page, started a form or watched most of a video. They already know who you are, and this is where a Meta account earns its most defensible cost per job.
Budgeted separately from prospecting, always. Blending them produces a flattering average and tells you nothing about whether the cold side is working.
Interrupting somebody's feed to offer emergency plumbing reaches a person who does not have an emergency. It is the most commonly boosted plumbing post and the most reliably wasted spend on this channel.
That demand exists and is worth buying — on Google Ads and LSA, where the person raised their hand first. We would rather move that budget than take it for a campaign we know underperforms.
Full-Service Management
Meta Ads isn’t one job — it’s four that have to agree with each other. Targeting decides who sees the ad, creative decides whether they stop, strategy decides what it costs, and tracking decides whether any of it can improve.

What it costs
The honest comparison against your search budget, with our observed ranges. The row that matters is the last one, not the first.
| Cost per lead, Meta | $25–$70 | Substantially below plumbing's search costs, and the number every agency selling you this channel will lead with. |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per lead, Google Ads for comparison | $80–$250 | Higher, and from someone who typed the words themselves. That difference in intent is the entire argument, in both directions. |
| Lead-to-booked rate, Meta | 10%–25% | Against roughly 40–60% on emergency search traffic. A Meta lead is earlier and softer, and a client who is not told this cancels in month two. |
| Cost per booked job, blended | $150–$400 | The only number worth comparing across channels. On plumbing it usually lands close to search rather than below it — which is the honest reason Meta is the third channel and not the first. |
| Where it genuinely wins | Replacement work | Water heaters, repipes, filtration. Higher ticket, longer consideration, and almost no competitor advertising into the window. This is where the account makes its money. |
| Recruiting cost per applicant | $15–$60 | Against a trade recruiter's fee. For a company that cannot staff another truck, this row is worth more than every other row on this table combined. |
These are our observed ranges across plumbing accounts, not published research, and they move with market, season and offer. The comparison rows are here deliberately: if your Google Ads and LSA are not yet running well, this channel is not your next dollar and we will say so on the first call.
Why us
We also run the Google Ads and LSA for plumbers, which is why we are willing to tell you this is the third channel — we are the ones who would lose the budget.
If Google Ads and LSA are not running well, that is your next dollar. We say it on the first call, and it costs us this retainer more often than you would think.
Replacement, repipes, filtration and recruiting. Not emergency callouts, which is where most plumbing Meta budget is quietly wasted.
Sewer camera footage and the owner on camera, shot by our videography team. One session produces a month of distinct ads, which is the real defence against creative fatigue.
Declared correctly as a Special Ad Category, aimed at technicians who are employed and not looking. For a company that cannot staff another truck, this outperforms every lead campaign on the account.
Meta leads are cheaper and softer. Cost per lead flatters this channel; cost per booked job is the only figure that compares honestly against your search spend.

FAQ
Straight answers on budgets, timelines, retargeting, and how results are actually tracked.
For emergency work, poorly — nobody decides to have a burst pipe because they saw an ad. For plannable work they work well: water heater replacement, repipes and filtration are decided over weeks and almost never searched until the decision is made. And for recruiting technicians they are the best channel available to the trade. Run against emergencies, Meta will disappoint you; run against those three, it earns its budget.
No. If your Google Ads and Local Services Ads are not running well, that is your next dollar, not this one. We will tell you that on the first call even though it means we are talking you out of this service — an agency that recommends the channel it is selling regardless of your situation is telling you something about itself.
Because a boosted post optimises for engagement rather than for leads, has no campaign structure, no retargeting split and usually no conversion tracking. It is the most common way plumbing companies conclude the channel does not work, and it is not a fair test of it.
Sewer camera footage, failure-you-can-still-prevent explainers, and the owner on camera being specific about one thing they see constantly. Produced hero videos underperform all three in nearly every plumbing account we run — and one filming session with the owner produces a month of distinct ads, which is what actually protects you from creative fatigue.
Yes, and it is frequently the most valuable thing the account does. It reaches licensed technicians who are employed and not actively looking, which no job board does. One constraint to know: employment ads are a Special Ad Category on Meta and run with restricted targeting options. We declare the campaign correctly at setup rather than having it rejected later.
Yes, and anyone who tells you otherwise is setting you up to cancel. They convert at roughly 10–25% to a booked job against 40–60% on emergency search traffic. They are also considerably cheaper, which is why the only number worth comparing is cost per booked job — not cost per lead.
Enough to exit the learning phase on a real offer — generally $1,500–$3,000 a month for a single-market plumbing company — and only after search is funded. Below that the algorithm never gets enough conversion data to optimise, and the account stays expensive for reasons that look like the channel's fault.
Two to four weeks to a first honest read on creative, and a full quarter before the plannable-work argument shows up in booked jobs — because you are reaching people weeks before their decision. The recruiting side, by contrast, usually produces applicants inside the first fortnight.
Partly, and we are straight about the limit. Pixel plus Conversions API captures direct conversions, and view-through data gives a directional read. But a homeowner who saw your ad for three weeks and then typed your name into Google is credited to search, and no honest setup fully recovers that. It is a real effect and an imperfectly measurable one.
We do, including filming — our videography team shoots the owner-on-camera and job-site footage these accounts run on. On a channel where the creative is the only lever the algorithm has not absorbed, an agency that cannot produce any is selling you a media buy.
